Workshop with adult learners, October 2023, Spain

On 19 October 2023, Formative Footprint organised a workshop with adult learners in Valladolid, Spain within the Erasmus+ project Stop Digital Divide. The workshop aimed to pilot 2 of the 15 activities developed in the practical course named  “Social coaching for adult digital integration” with 20 adult learners with low digital skills. The activities are focused on empowering adult educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance digital literacy among adults, thereby promoting social inclusion in the digital age.

To foster a sense of camaraderie and break initial barriers, participants engaged in a series of activities. These included a “Human Bingo” game where attendees sought others who shared common experiences or interests. An interactive “Two Truths and a Lie” exercise encouraged participants to share personal anecdotes, creating an atmosphere of openness and trust.

The project presentation was led by Damiana Sudano, who detailed the “Stop Digital Divide” (SDD) project’s overarching objectives. These included addressing the digital divide among adults, identifying specific learning needs, and promoting social inclusion through technology. Results and promising outcomes from the project’s pilot phase were presented, demonstrating its potential for widespread impact.

After that, during the Problem Solving with Mural workshop, participants delved into real-world scenarios using the collaborative power of the Mural platform. Guided by facilitators, they tackled diverse challenges, from enhancing password management to addressing concerns about online privacy.  The second workshop activity was led on Genial.ly, where participants delved into the realm of interactive content creation. Guided by the trainer, they learned to craft engaging and informative content focused on disinformation and fake news. Through hands-on exploration, participants navigated the Genial.ly platform, customizing templates, incorporating multimedia elements, and adding interactivity.

This immersive experience empowered them not only to enhance their digital skills but also to develop the ability to critically analyze and evaluate media content. After the workshop, maintaining a robust line of communication with the participants is paramount for sustained learning and growth. This will be facilitated through the exchange of contact information among the attendees, fostering a network of like-minded educators dedicated to advancing digital integration in adult education.
